Houston Tax Advisors

Tax Planning & Preparation

Houston’s premier tax planning and preparation firm.

Houston Tax Advisors is a firm with a singular goal: To put cash in our client’s pockets by saving them taxes. We often ask clients, “How much effort would you put in for an extra $5k in your pocket? What about $10k? $20k?” Many people will walk through fire to earn a bonus at work, but the same people balk at the idea of a little extra effort to save the same amount in taxes. Whether you receive this money as a bonus, or whether you save it on your tax return the effect is the same - it represents funds you can save, invest, use to start (or improve) a business, or take a well-deserved vacation. At Houston Tax Advisors our specialty is using plain English to describe how you can save taxes with enhanced confidence in your record keeping. We say it all the time - the IRS is not the enemy, and you shouldn’t live in fear of them!

Our professional tax advisors have years of experience, and they can help you whether you’re filing for the first time, getting ready to retire, or if you have run your own business for years. We’re happy to review prior returns to look for deductions you may have missed, and of course we always recommend reviewing the current year to plan for actions you can take between now and December 31st to save even more.

Give us a call, send an email, or use the form below to schedule your first consultation, and remember, it’s not what you earn, it’s what you keep!

How can we help?

Tax planning

It has been said that “It’s not what you earn, it’s what you keep.” The goal of tax planning is to review your records and provide tax advice before the end of the year. Most tax firms shut down in the off season - we’re busy helping our clients keep more of their money all year long.

Prior year review

Many people don’t realize they’re sitting on a potential gold mine: their prior tax returns. The law allows you to go back and change a tax return, and if it results in a refund they will send you a check! Let us review your prior returns to see if you received every deduction you deserve.

Individual Tax preparation

Tax laws change every year, and every “tax simplification” law only seems to make things more complicated. Houston Tax Advisors specializes in helping make the tax code make sense, and helping families save taxes and secure their financial futures.

business consulting

Our founder has years of experience in Strategy & Operations consulting, working with Fortune 500 companies to grow and improve profitability. He also built, ran, and sold a successful business of his own. Let us work with you to take your business to the next level.

business tax preparation

A business is valued based on how much money it makes, and that includes how much is “lost” to taxes. Improve your cash flow, improve your valuation, find funds to grow your business, and keep more of your profits with our expert business tax planning and preparation.

BUSINESS valuation

How much is a business worth? The short answer is “as much as someone will pay for it,” but the complicated truth is that a variety of factors influence a company’s value, and it requires a rigorous process to derive an accurate figure. Give us a call if you are buying or selling a business!

I live in Alexandria, Virginia. Near the Supreme Court chambers is a toll bridge across the Potomac. When in a rush, I pay the dollar toll and get home early. However, I usually drive on a free bridge outside of town. This bridge was placed outside of downtown to serve a useful social service, getting drivers to drive the extra mile and help alleviate congestion. If I went over the toll bridge and through the barrier without paying the toll, I would be committing tax evasion. If I drive the extra mile to the free bridge, I am using a legitimate method of tax avoidance, and am performing a useful social service by doing so.

For my tax evasion, I should be punished. For my tax avoidance, I should be commended. The tragedy of life today is that so few people know that the free bridge even exists.
— US Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis
